24 Lessons

 24 lessons I learnt in 2024

1. You are with you, always.

2. Distance cannot affect your bond with anyone; thoughts affect.

3. Loving yourself a little is not selfishness.

4. Maturity never comes with age.

5. Be polite and humble to everyone.

6. If they want, they will.

7. Don’t lose yourself for someone.

8. Be aware of yourself, your body, your emotions, your thoughts, and YOU.

9. Late is better than never.

10. Being kind is the most humble practice.

11. Everyone’s perspective is unique and different.

12. Clear communication can solve any problem.

13. Stay firm in your ethics and principles.

14. Take care of everyone around you.

15. Understanding the other sides of stories is equally important.

16. Don’t lie to yourself.

17. Think. Work. Execute.

18. Don’t make judgements and promises in a hurry or with a tangled mind.

19. Waiting is the hope that keeps us waiting.

20. Taking a different path is not wrong.

21. Observation makes life easy and difficult at the same time.

22. Sleep with the thought of fulfilling the dream tomorrow.

23. Accept your every mood, and be patient with yourself.

24. Care and love with a pure heart.

Like every year, this year has been full of lessons. Every step I took and every decision I made taught me something. I understood life’s a few layers more deeply and implemented changes in myself. This year was filled with thousands of incidents and memories. Held the hands of new bonds and let go of the few. I learned to be true to myself in every phase.

A poetic heart is safe within its rhymes.

You are always with you,

In the quiet and the loud,

Distance can’t break a bond

It’s your thoughts,

that crowd.

Loving yourself?

Not selfish at all,

It’s the first step to standing tall.

Maturity isn’t

about the years,

It’s about growing past the fears.

Be humble, be kind, and

let politeness shine,

If they want it, they’ll be on time.

Don’t lose yourself

for someone else,

You’re your own, in every cell.

Know your body, your heart, your mind,

Self-awareness is peace you’ll find.

Late’s better than never;

always remember,

Kindness is a flame that burns forever.

Everyone sees things in their way.

Clear words can turn the night to day.

Stick to your values, stand strong,

Be firm in what’s right, all along.

Take care of the ones by your side,

Understand all sides,

let no truth hide.

Don’t lie to yourself,

it’s a dangerous game,

Honesty with you will always reign.

Taking a new path isn’t wrong,

It’s where your heart has belonged.

Sometimes life’s

both hard and clear,

But observe, and everything will appear.

Let your heart shine pure and true,

With kindness, let the world renew.

In every act of love we share,

We find the beauty in how we care.

Full Mug to Full Heart

18 Dec 2024 is a day of firsts, a small but significant milestone. For someone like me, too shy to eat in public, the thought of stepping into a bustling café alone was thrilling and nerve-wracking. But there I was, walking into Starbucks with a laptop in one hand and a heart brimming with nervous excitement. I’d decided it was time to spend some intentional time with myself. A solo coffee date seemed like the perfect start. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee greeted me as soon as I pushed open the glass door. The café buzzed with activity baristas calling out names, laptops glowing on tables, and soft chatter filling the air. I scanned the room for a cosy corner where I could comfortably settle down, away from prying eyes that I imagined would judge me for sitting alone.

I ordered a classic latte, a comforting choice for my nervous heart, and the barista handed me a warm ceramic mug. As I carried it back to my table, the steam swirled upward, filling the space around me with its inviting scent. The mug, full to the brim, felt heavy in my hands, almost symbolic of the weight of my emotions. This was not just a cup of coffee; it was the start of something new, a small act of self-discovery. I opened my laptop and began to type, hoping to lose myself in work and silence the doubts that lingered in my mind. But Starbucks, as I quickly realized, is not a place for silence. Around me, life unfolded in a kaleidoscope of scenes. At one table, a group of college students brainstormed loudly, their energy infectious. At another, a couple sipped their cappuccinos, their laughter soft and intimate. Nearby, a woman in a blazer tapped furiously on her keyboard, her focus unshakable.

At first, I felt like an outsider peeking into their worlds. My shyness nudged me to retreat into my work, to make myself as invisible as possible. But as I took my first sip of the latte, something shifted. The warmth of the coffee spread through me, soothing not just my body but also my overthinking mind. I began to realize that no one was paying attention to me. Everyone was immersed in their own stories, their mugs of coffee, full of their own experiences.

The café, I realized, was like a microcosm of life. Each person, each table, told a story. The college students laughed louder as their brainstorming session turned into a debate. The couple moved closer, whispering conspiratorially. The woman in the blazer paused to sip her coffee, her eyes momentarily distant, perhaps lost in thought. And then there was me, sitting alone but not lonely, discovering that solitude could be as comforting as the latte in my hand. By the time I reached the bottom of the mug, my heart felt lighter. The shyness that had weighed me down when I first walked in seemed to have evaporated, much like the steam from my coffee. The once-full cup was now empty, but it had been filled with so much more than coffee. It held moments of courage, quiet reflection, and unexpected joy.

I closed my laptop, packed my things, and sat for a moment longer, soaking in the atmosphere. This solo coffee date, I realized, was not just about stepping out of my comfort zone. It was about stepping into myself, about learning to enjoy my own company and finding beauty in the everyday. As I walked out of Starbucks, the December air felt crisp against my cheeks. I glanced back at the café through the glass walls and smiled. This was the first of many dates with myself. Each sip of that latte had taught me something: to savour the present, to let go of unnecessary fears, and to embrace the world as it comes. From a full mug to an empty cup, it was a story worth telling, a story I’d gladly live again.

Lost and Found at the Same Time

It has been a long time since I wrote long-form content, and I realise how much I miss it. After poetry, this is my favourite way of sitting...
